Quick answer: the third-generation Toyota Vitz (the 130 series, sold in Japan from December 2010 to 2019) is the Japanese-market version of the XP130 Yaris. Its chassis code tells you the engine: KSP130 is the 1.0 L 1KR-FE, NSP130 the 1.3 L 2WD, NSP135 the 1.3 L 4WD, NCP131 the 1.5 L 1NZ-FE and NHP130 the hybrid (from January 2017). Search parts by that code and engine, not just "Yaris".

The Vitz is the car you buy when you want a Yaris but also want the fun of explaining, at every parts counter, that it is in fact a Yaris. It is small, frugal and everywhere in the used-import world. The catch is that "Vitz" covers five different engine-and-drivetrain combinations, and the wrong one is how a cheap oil filter becomes a second trip to the post office.
Is a Vitz the same as a Yaris?
Mostly, yes. Wikipedia lists the third-generation Vitz and the XP130 Yaris as the same generation, built in Japan for the home market and in France for Europe (Wikipedia: Toyota Yaris (XP130))). Body panels, glass and many service parts are shared.
The differences hide in the details. Japanese-market cars got a 1.0 L three-cylinder, a 4WD version and a hybrid with a Japanese-spec setup, and the 1.3 L engine changed during the model's life. A local Yaris listing that says "1.3" can still be the wrong 1.3. That's why the code matters.
Which Vitz do you have?
| Chassis code | Engine | Drive | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| KSP130 | 1.0 L 1KR-FE (3-cylinder) | 2WD | The small one. Different plugs and filter from the 1.3 |
| NSP130 | 1.3 L 1NR-FE, then 1NR-FKE on later cars | 2WD | Toyota's 2018 spec sheet lists the 1NR-FKE; earlier cars used the 1NR-FE |
| NSP135 | 1.3 L 1NR-FE | 4WD | Japan-only 4WD. Rear brakes and suspension can differ |
| NCP131 | 1.5 L 1NZ-FE | 2WD | The sporty RS and similar 1.5 L versions |
| NHP130 | 1.5 L 1NZ-FXE hybrid | 2WD | Added in January 2017 with the second facelift |
Sources: chassis codes, engines and drive layouts from Toyota Japan's Vitz specification sheet (May 2018) and the Gulliver Vitz catalogue; dates from Wikipedia). The model code box (型式) on your export certificate is the final word. If your papers say something like "DBA-NSP130", the letters before the dash are an emissions prefix and the part after it is the code you search with. Our guide to reading Japanese model codes explains the whole string, or paste it into the free model code lookup.
Which facelift is it, and does that matter?
Wikipedia lists three looks for this generation: the original (December 2010), a facelift in April 2014 and a second facelift in January 2017, which also brought the hybrid. The GR and GR Sport versions arrived in September 2017.
For a filter or a set of plugs, the facelift rarely matters as much as the engine. For headlights, bumpers, grilles, tail lights and anything with a connector, it matters a lot. Photograph the front and rear of your car, and compare them with the seller's photos before you buy a body or lighting part.
The service parts you'll buy most
| Part | Fit depends on | Our page |
|---|---|---|
| Oil filter | Engine family (1KR vs 1NR vs 1NZ) | Yaris / Vitz oil filters |
| Spark plugs | Engine code. The 3-cylinder takes three, not four | Yaris / Vitz spark plugs |
| Engine air filter | Engine and facelift | Yaris / Vitz engine air filters |
| Cabin air filter | Generation | Yaris / Vitz cabin air filters |
| Front brake pads | Engine, trim and wheel size | Yaris / Vitz front brake pads |
| Wiper blades | Generation (Japanese-market lengths can differ) | Yaris / Vitz wiper blades |
| Headlight bulbs | Halogen vs factory LED, facelift | Yaris / Vitz LED headlight bulbs |
| Floor mats | Right-hand drive, 2WD/4WD, hybrid | Yaris / Vitz floor mats |
Plug tip: "Yaris spark plugs" listings often assume a four-cylinder. A KSP130 has three cylinders, so a set of four leaves you with a spare and possibly the wrong plug. Check the engine code in the listing, then check the plug type against the one you take out.
Vitz Hybrid (NHP130): what's different?
The hybrid uses the 1NZ-FXE engine, the same engine family as the Toyota Aqua (NHP10), which many sellers know better. That helps when you're searching for engine service parts. It doesn't mean every Aqua part fits: the bodies, interiors and many brackets are different.
Two things to watch:
- The 12 V battery. Hybrids still have a small 12 V battery, and a tired one causes odd warnings or a car that won't "Ready". Buy by the size and terminal layout printed on your old battery, not by "Vitz hybrid battery".
- The hybrid system itself. Inverter coolant, hybrid battery parts and high-voltage components are jobs for someone trained on hybrids. Buying the part on eBay is fine; fitting it in the driveway is not the place to learn.
How to search eBay for Vitz parts
- Start with the code: "NSP130 cabin filter", "KSP130 spark plugs", "NHP130 brake pads".
- Then try the other name: "Yaris XP130 1.3 brake pads". Many sellers outside Japan only list by Yaris.
- Look for the Toyota part number in good listings and search that number on its own. A part number match beats any model name.
- 4WD owners (NSP135): add "4WD" to every search for rear brakes, hubs, driveshafts and suspension, and confirm with the seller.
- Compare the landed price, including postage and GST or VAT. Our eBay car parts myths guide covers how tax is added and why the cheapest listing isn't always the cheapest part.

FAQ
Is a Toyota Vitz the same as a Toyota Yaris?
Yes, the third-generation Vitz (130 series) is the Japanese-market version of the XP130 Yaris. Many parts are shared, but the Japanese car has its own engine and drivetrain options, so search by chassis code and engine.
What do KSP130, NSP130 and NHP130 mean?
They are Vitz chassis codes. KSP130 is the 1.0 L three-cylinder (1KR-FE), NSP130 is the 1.3 L 2WD, NSP135 is the 1.3 L 4WD, NCP131 is the 1.5 L 1NZ-FE and NHP130 is the hybrid with the 1NZ-FXE engine.
Do Australian or UK Yaris parts fit a Japanese Vitz?
Often, for the same generation and engine, but not always. Check the engine code and facelift, and confirm with the seller using your frame number before buying brakes, lights or electrical parts.
Do Aqua parts fit a Vitz Hybrid?
Some engine service parts may be shared because both use the 1NZ-FXE engine, but the bodies and many components are different. Match by Toyota part number rather than assuming Aqua parts fit.
When was the Vitz Hybrid sold?
The Vitz Hybrid (NHP130) was added in Japan with the second facelift in January 2017 and was sold until the Vitz was replaced by the new Yaris.
