Quick answer: Yes, many parts for a 2WD ACR50 or GSR50 Estima cross over from the Australian Tarago (ACR50R/GSR50R), especially engine service parts and many brake, suspension and steering parts, but always check by part number. 4WD (ACR55/GSR55), hybrid (AHR20), aero, lighting, trim, power door and audio parts often don't cross over, so send the seller your frame number and build date.

If you own an imported 50-series Toyota Estima in Australia, you're in luck: the same car was sold new here as the Toyota Tarago, so many service parts are on the shelf at your local Toyota dealer. Your "exotic import" is, as far as the oil filter is concerned, a Tarago with better stories. This guide shows you which Estima parts swap straight across from the Tarago, which ones don't, and how to order the Japan-only bits without guesswork.
Which Estima do you have?
The 50-series Estima was built from 2006 to 2019, with several facelifts along the way (in Japan, including late 2008 and mid-2016). Here are the codes you're most likely to see:
| Chassis code | Engine | Australian Tarago equivalent |
|---|---|---|
| ACR50 / ACR55 | 2.4 L petrol, 2AZ-FE | Tarago 2.4 (ACR50R) |
| GSR50 / GSR55 | 3.5 L V6, 2GR-FE | Tarago V6 (GSR50R) |
| AHR20 | 2.4 L hybrid, 2AZ-FXE, E-Four AWD | Not part of the regular Tarago range |
The 55 codes are four-wheel drive. The Australian Tarago was front-wheel drive, so there's no local equivalent for those. The Estima Hybrid (AHR20) has a completely different drivetrain from the petrol cars.
Your chassis code is at the start of your frame number, for example ACR50-0123456. More on that in our guide to reading a Japanese model code, or paste your code into our free Model Code Lookup to check the engine and drivetrain in one go.
Parts that usually cross over from the Tarago
For a 2WD ACR50 or GSR50, these parts are often the same as the Australian Tarago, or have a Tarago equivalent:
- Engine service parts: oil filter, air filter, spark plugs. The 2AZ-FE was also used in Australian Camrys and RAV4s, and the 2GR-FE in the Aurion and Kluger, so these are widely stocked.
- Many brake parts, depending on wheel size and grade
- Many suspension and steering parts on 2WD cars
Always check by part number. Toyota sometimes used different parts for the Japanese market even when the car looked identical, and the Tarago and Estima weren't always facelifted at the same time. Ask the parts counter to look up an ACR50 or GSR50 Tarago of the same build year, rather than "Estima", and compare part numbers before you buy.

Parts that often don't cross over
This is where Japanese-market Estimas differ from the Tarago, and where specialist and Japanese sellers are most useful:
- 4WD parts for ACR55 and GSR55: rear drive and some suspension parts, which the front-drive Tarago never used.
- Hybrid parts for the AHR20: almost everything specific to the hybrid system.
- Body kits and aero bumpers. Japan got the "Aeras" and other sporty grades with different bumpers, grilles and side skirts.
- Lights, which differ between grades and facelifts.
- Interior trim and seats, especially on higher grades.
- Power sliding door and power back door parts, which vary by grade.
- Audio, navigation and TV, which are Japan-specific.
For any of these, send your frame number and build date to the seller before you buy.
The parts you'll buy most often
Cabin air filter
Often neglected, and a people mover full of family needs good airflow to the back rows. A clogged filter also means musty air-con and a windscreen that fogs.
→ Estima cabin air filters
Wiper blades
Don't assume Tarago sizes. Measure your blades or check the part number, and remember driver and passenger lengths usually differ.
→ Estima wiper blades
A head unit you can actually use
The factory Japanese navigation is no use here and the radio only covers part of the FM band. You can fit a band expander, or replace the head unit with an Android unit and an Estima fascia kit.

→ FM band expanders

Estima Hybrid (AHR20) owners: a word of caution
The AHR20 shares its engine family with the petrol ACR50, but its hybrid system, inverter and electric rear drive (E-Four) are its own. Many local mechanics won't have worked on one.
- Use a JOBD-compatible scanner or a hybrid specialist for diagnosis. → JOBD-compatible scanners
- Buy hybrid-system parts by part number only.
- Keep a translated English owner's manual in the car. → English owner's manuals
A simple rule for Estima parts
- Shared engine or service part? Try a local Toyota dealer or parts store first. Ask for the Tarago or the engine code.
- Japan-only part (4WD, hybrid, aero, trim, audio)? Search online by chassis code and part number.
- Not sure? Message the seller with your frame number before buying.

FAQ
Do Tarago parts fit an Estima?
Often, for a 2WD ACR50 or GSR50: engine service parts, many brake parts and many suspension and steering parts are the same as the Australian Tarago or have a Tarago equivalent. Toyota sometimes used different parts for Japan, so compare part numbers, asking the counter for an ACR50 or GSR50 Tarago of the same build year.
Which Tarago matches my Estima?
The ACR50 2.4 L petrol (2AZ-FE) matches the Tarago 2.4 (ACR50R), and the GSR50 3.5 L V6 (2GR-FE) matches the Tarago V6 (GSR50R). The 4WD ACR55 and GSR55 have no local equivalent because the Australian Tarago was front-wheel drive.
Is the Estima Hybrid AHR20 the same as a Tarago?
No. The AHR20 has a 2.4 L 2AZ-FXE hybrid with E-Four AWD and wasn't part of the regular Tarago range. Buy hybrid-system parts by part number only and use a JOBD-compatible scanner or a hybrid specialist for diagnosis.
Which Estima parts aren't shared with the Tarago?
4WD parts for the ACR55 and GSR55, hybrid parts for the AHR20, Japanese body kits and aero bumpers (such as the Aeras grades), lights, interior trim and seats, power sliding and back door parts, and the Japan-specific audio, navigation and TV.
