Honda Fit / Jazz Parts Guide (GK3, GK5, GP5): Same Car, Two Names, Many Codes

This guide contains affiliate links to eBay. See the note at the end.

Quick answer: the Honda Fit is the Japanese-market name for the car sold as the Jazz in Australia, the UK and Europe. The third generation (2013–2020 in Japan) uses GK3/GK4 for the 1.3 L petrol, GK5/GK6 for the 1.5 L petrol and GP5/GP6 for the 1.5 L hybrid. Search parts with that code, not just "Fit" or "Jazz", because the engines take different filters and plugs.

The Fit is proof that a small car can have a big personality, as long as that personality is "folds its back seats like origami and swallows a bike when nobody's looking". It's frugal, practical and very popular as a used import. It also answers to two names, which confuses parts websites far more than it confuses the car.

Fit or Jazz: does it matter for parts?

Mostly it's the same car with a different badge. Local Jazz parts are often a good match, but a Japanese-market Fit may have an engine, gearbox or equipment level that was never sold new where you live, especially the 4WD versions and some hybrids. The chassis code tells you which one you've got.

Which Fit do you have?

Generation Japan launch Chassis codes Engine
2nd gen October 2007 (hybrid from October 2010) GE series (the hybrid has its own code) Petrol and hybrid versions. Check your papers
3rd gen, 1.3 petrol September 2013 GK3 (2WD), GK4 (4WD) 1.3 L L13B
3rd gen, 1.5 petrol September 2013 GK5 (2WD), GK6 (4WD) 1.5 L L15B
3rd gen, hybrid September 2013 GP5 (2WD), GP6 (4WD) 1.5 L hybrid (LEB) with Honda's i-DCD system
4th gen February 2020 GR / GS series 1.3 L petrol or 1.5 L e:HEV hybrid. Different car; don't assume 3rd-gen parts fit

Spot the pattern (third generation): an even number (GK4, GK6, GP6) is the 4WD. Honda didn't make it this tidy on every generation, so don't apply the rule to an older GE. If your car is 4WD, filter your search: rear brakes, driveshafts and suspension parts can differ.

Spark plugs Engine: L13B vs L15B vs hybrid Fit / Jazz spark plugs

Headlights check: some Fits came with factory LED headlights, which don't take bulbs at all. Look at your headlight before you buy "LED upgrade bulbs" for a car that already has them.

Hybrid owners: two extra things

  1. The 12 V battery. Hybrids still have a small 12 V battery, and a tired one causes all sorts of strange warnings. Check by part number or by the size printed on the battery itself. Our model code guide explains Japanese battery codes like 46B24L.
  2. The gearbox. The GP5/GP6 hybrid uses Honda's i-DCD system with a dual-clutch gearbox, which is different from the CVT (or manual) in the petrol models. Wrong fluid in a gearbox is the kind of saving that gets expensive. Don't buy gearbox fluid, mounts or gearbox parts by "Fit" alone; give the seller your chassis code.

How to search eBay for Fit parts

  1. Start with the code: "GK3 cabin filter", "GP5 brake pads".
  2. Then try the other name: "Jazz GK cabin filter". Many sellers outside Japan list by Jazz.
  3. Look for the Honda part number in good listings, then search the number itself. It's the most reliable match there is.
  4. Message the seller with your frame number for anything that isn't a cheap filter.
  5. Compare the landed price, including postage and GST or VAT. Our guide to buying car parts on eBay without the classic mistakes explains how tax is added.

Import-only fixes

Like every Japanese-market car, your Fit probably came with a radio that misses most local stations and Japanese-only menus. Start with the week-one surprises guide, then:

FAQ

Is a Honda Fit the same as a Honda Jazz?

Yes, Fit is the Japanese (and North American) name and Jazz is the name used in Australia, the UK and Europe. The body is the same, but Japanese-market versions can have engines, 4WD systems or equipment that weren't sold locally, so search parts by chassis code.

What does GK3, GK5 and GP5 mean?

They're chassis codes for the third-generation Fit: GK3 is the 1.3 L petrol (L13B), GK5 the 1.5 L petrol (L15B) and GP5 the 1.5 L hybrid, all front-wheel drive. GK4, GK6 and GP6 are the 4WD versions.

Do Jazz parts from Australia or the UK fit a Japanese Fit?

Often, for the same generation and engine, but not always. Check the chassis code and the engine, and confirm with the seller using your frame number before buying brakes, suspension or electrical parts.

Do third-generation Fit parts fit the 2020-on model?

Assume not. The fourth-generation Fit (GR/GS series, from February 2020 in Japan) is a different car with a different hybrid system.
